Effects of Water Temperature Fluctuations During the Winter Vernalization Phase and an Annual Life Cycle on the Reproduction and Growth of Fish of Aquaculture Interest

Aquaculture

01/01/2026 - 31/12/2028

As part of a collaboration between the Animal and Agri-Ecosystems Laboratory (L2A) and the Grand-Est Aquaculture Cluster (FAGE), the effects of water temperature on the growth and reproductive performance of freshwater fish will be studied, focusing on species of aquaculture interest. The project will have two distinct objectives: 1 – to evaluate the effects of rising water temperatures (in fish ponds) associated with ongoing climate change on the reproductive and growth performance of several fish species of major interest for extensive pond fish farming (FAGE pond fish farmers), and 2 – to determine the maximum acceptable temperature during the vernalization phase for common perch broodstock, with the aim of reducing energy costs without compromising reproductive performance (perch farms operating in off-ground systems).
