Strengthening international collaboration in aquaculture research between the University of Lorraine and the Bangladesh Agricultural University

From 10 to 18 June 2026, three members of the Animal and Agroecosystems Laboratory (L2A) — Dr. Thomas Lecocq, Yannick Ledoré, and Katerina Samiotaki — travelled to Bangladesh as part of an international partnership between the Université de Lorraine and the Université de Namur.

The mission focused on research into the domestication of fish species for aquaculture, with the collection of biological material from zebrafish (Danio rerio) and discussions on future collaborative research projects with Prof. Md Shahjahan at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh.

During their visit, the L2A delegation also had the honor of meeting the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, and the Head of the Department of Aquaculture. These fruitful discussions highlighted a shared commitment to strengthening scientific cooperation and developing innovative research initiatives in sustainable aquaculture.

This mission marks an important step in expanding international partnerships and fostering scientific exchange to address the challenges of future aquaculture.
