L2A to attend the ASLO-SIL 2026 International Conference in Montreal

In May 2026, the Animal and Agroecosystems Laboratory (L2A, University of Lorraine) took part in the ASLO-SIL 2026 international conference held in Montreal (Canada), one of the leading international scientific events dedicated to the study of aquatic ecosystems. On this occasion, two oral presentations were given by Damien Banas and Gaspard Conseil in sessions devoted to emerging contaminants and small aquatic systems.
Professor Damien Banas presented a summary of more than ten years of research into the role of headwater dams in the fate of pesticides and their transformation products. The results show that, despite their impact on the ecological continuity of watercourses, these water bodies also play an important role in mitigating the flow of contaminants downstream.
Gaspard Conseil, a research assistant at L2A, presented work on the ecotoxicological characterisation of pesticide transformation products in small water bodies. By combining environmental risk assessment and biomonitoring, this approach provides a better understanding of the actual effects of contaminants that are still insufficiently accounted for in regulatory assessments.
Beyond their ecological significance, this research highlights that inland aquatic environments also serve as production systems, particularly through fish ponds, and that a better understanding of how they function is necessary to reconcile biodiversity conservation, water quality and aquaculture activities.
