Pesticides and ecotoxicological risks in small water bodies: results of a scientific exchange between Lorraine and the Canton of Geneva

Published on 07/11/2025

As part of a three-month scientific mobility programme (June to September 2025) initiated by Damien Banas, Gaspard Conseil spent time with the EISA group in the Nature Management department (HEPIA - Geneva), under the supervision of Aurélie Boissezon (Assistant Professor) and Lucie Rivail (LUSUL Project Manager and HES Lecturer).

This post-doctoral stay, supported by the Animal and Agroecosystems Laboratory (L2A), aimed to strengthen cross-border collaborations on emerging contaminants, environmental risk assessment and the functioning of small agricultural hydrosystems.
The work carried out made it possible to:
• compare the ecotoxicological risk assessment approaches developed for agricultural ponds in Lorraine and water bodies in Geneva,
• further reflect on the role of pesticide transformation products in the contamination of continental waters,
• identify new prospects for joint projects, particularly around environmental monitoring and the management of risks associated with the mixing of micropollutants

This mobility marks a key step in the consolidation of a Franco-Swiss network dedicated to the study of emerging contaminants in aquatic agroecosystems.
