L2A participation in the annual IABEP conference

Published on 16/10/2025

Noémie Mailfert and Stefan Jurjanz accepted the invitation from the Serbian organising team to participate in the annual conference of the International Association for Biomonitoring of Environmental Pollution (IABEP), which took place from 13 to 15 October in Belgrade, Serbia. The sessions focused on biomonitoring using mosses and lichens, mainly air pollution, another on monitoring microplastic pollution, and how to monitor PFAS.

Our place was in the session dedicated to bioindication, particularly of organic pollutants by animals and their products. While Stefan introduced this session, Noémie presented her work on the Xi-PBET test. Our partners from KazNU presented work on an in vitro model of the bioavailability of organochlorine pesticides in chickens and work on the migration of pyrethroids from packaging to milk. There was also work on the contamination of wetland birds in Spain, freshwater fish (Serbia and Croatia) and mussels (South Africa).  Tijana Milicevic's presentation in this session on metal contaminants in breast milk in Croatia was awarded the Scientific Committee's Young Researcher Prize. The work on animal models aroused keen interest among the hundred or so participants from 20 countries, mainly European, and discussions continued throughout the Congress.
