Will it be possible to degrade the chlordecone present in livestock effluents?

Published on 09/07/2021

Perla Alnajjar, a Lebanese doctoral student in cotutelle, is spending a month at the UMR 8030 Metabolic Genomics, a joint unit of the Genoscope (CEA) and the University of Evry, hosted by her thesis co-supervisor Pierre-Loïc Saaidi...

The objective of the stay was to detect transformation products (TP) of chlordecone in digestates prepared on the ENSAIA methanisation platform. Several modalities were tested, in particular methanisation under mesophilic or thermophilic conditions. The answer to the question should be obtained by the end of July; if it is positive, the next step will be to optimise the anaerobic digestion conditions to increase the degradation rate.
